|
|
Yesterday, MPNA signed a voluntary agreement with Marleny's Restaurant located at 3201 Mt. Pleasant Street, NW.
MPNA supports this license, which is a Class "D" Beer and Wine license for this establishment.
APPLICATION: 'The hours of operation will be Sunday through Saturday, 6:00 am until midnight. The hours of sale, service or consumption of alcohol will be from 10am to midnight. The nature of operation, as specified in the application for the Class DR licensis is a family restaurant serving Salvadorian, Mexican and American food with background recorded music only. There will be no live entertainment, cover charge or dancing.'
Neighbors, members, and residents had only one concern. That is, the establishment wanted to begin selling alcohol at 8:00 am. This was viewed as a disadvantage to other businesses surrounding Marleny's who begin serving alcohol at 10:00 am. Marleny's understood and agreed to change their serving hour to 10:00 am.
The VA will be posted when available.
MPNA did not protest this new license, but the ANC did. Please note that until and unless the ANC drops their protest, this establishment will not be able to get their license as planned.

There is a roll call hearing on Wednesday, Nov 7th at 10:00 am before the ABC Board because Marleny's is being protested by the ANC and the Mudd8.
Because of these protests, the establishment cannot obtain their liquor license, which they could have had by now. Instead, the ANC and Mudd8 are now holding up this business' ability to get their license.
I have been in contact with Marleny's attorney and offered any help we could provide.
Updates to follow.

How about posting that VA, so we can see what the current MPNA version is? -- Jack

Sure.
How about the ANC drop their protest against Marleny's so that she can run her business. It's one thing that you protest existing ABC licenses for no reason at all--it does not affect their sale of alcohol.
She is now at a disadvantage and has to pay for a lawyer. The ANC is affecting her bottom line and seriously interfering in her economic vitality, proving once again a hostile environment on Mt. Pleasant Street.

We'll be taking action on this at the November 6 meeting. -- Jack
