ANC Passes Resolution to Drop Protests* Against Tonic, Radius, Marx and Corados

As the microphone went around the room, they repeated the same thing, ’I am here to support the [Bosserman] resolution to drop the protests against Tonic, Radius, Marx and Corados.’ Hear Mt. Pleasant leader Claudia Schlosberg reiterated their position in support of the resolution as well.

At last Tuesday’s meeting with a quorum present, ANC Commissioner Dave Bosserman introduced a resolution that would ensure that all of its Voluntary Agreements are truly voluntary on the part of business owners and would withdraw any ANC1D protest of any Mt Pleasant liquor license application, liquor license renewal or entertainment endorsement if the business owner does not voluntarily accept the Voluntary Agreement, which include these 4 ABC establishments. "I think that Dave Bosserman is a voice of reason, and needs to be congratulated. He presented a motion that represents the only logical and responsible course of action of this ANC,” said one participant.

ANC1D stated that it believes that Voluntary Agreements between business owners and neighborhood residents and groups should truly be voluntary. Commissioner Jack McKay said it himself, signing these agreements by these 4 businesses is ‘completely inconsequential to them’ and last month posted on a local forum that he was committed to introduce his own resolution to drop the protest.

“Now that these regrettable events are behind us, Tonic and Radius are looking forward to working with the newly elected officers of the ANC, ” says Jeremy Pollock, owner of Radius and Tonic who also attended the meeting. When Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham heard, he, too expressed his support with the ANC’s decision to drop the protest.

ANC1D further believes that agreements forced upon a business owner through threats of costly and time consuming liquor license protest legalities, as in these cases, will not foster genuine community consideration and support by the business owner. “The resolution that passed is great, it begins the process of getting the ANC off the backs of the businesses,” said Mt. Pleasant resident, Sam Broeksmit.

ANC1D sees the active community management of unwanted side effects of Mt Pleasant businesses that now exists in Mt Pleasant as the preferred mode of community-business cooperation. “This is good news! I never liked all this, the ANC has taken my time for nothing.” said Mr. Corado of Corados Guatemalan Restaurant, who is also happy to get back to his business.

*The ANC now joins Main Street, Inc., who also dropped their protests against these licensees as well.

Jack, While I know you get very excited about bashing the MPNA and like a small child can't wait to "tell on me" by disparaging the MPNA any chance you get, I am happy to comment on silliness which you find so very important here.

Mr. Graham has chosen NOT to comment on the resolution; this is after a 5 day back and forth exchange with him asking for a 1-liner for our article. Since he never gave us an actual quote, I paraphrased our conversations on the matter and did not quote him in the article at all.

It's no big deal--the ANC resolution was passed. I don't know anyone who is not happy about that which is the most important point of the article; therefore, we don't need Mr. Graham's approval or comments.

I wish you could focus on real issues of the neighborhood, so many of which have been posted on this forum.
